It seems that Sony wants to be the number one CMOS sensor maker. The Japanese company is working on a new sensor which will surpass the human eye. During a briefing which took place a week ago the company provided some more information on its image sensor business. From a shown presentation we can learn that Sony’s proprietary pixel fabrication process technology has enabled it to realize the industry’s smallest unit pixel size, 1.12μm, and the world’s first type 1/2.8 CMOS image sensor with 16.41 effective megapixel.
