Canon Cinema RAW Development Software

Canon Cinema RAW Development Software | CineTechnica:
Canon has released their very easy to use Cinema RAW Development software for Mac OS Lion and Mountain Lion, which allows you to ingest, play, and export Canon RAW files. The user interface is very intuitive; just click on a clip and it immediately shows up in the Preview window. You can play it straight, scrub, go through it frame by frame, and set in and out points. The Preview window also includes some basic look controls, such as viewing gammas, sharpness, white balance, and brightness controls. There is also the ability to view frame and clip information. You can also use the software to play your footage out to an external monitor using an expansion card with SDI output.

However, there are some really important things to know before jumping in. Canon has recently published a white paper on Canon Log that is full of great info. It’s not exactly light reading, however, so I’ll try to outline some of the important information about Canon’s Log curve in this blog.

Understanding Canon Log

Understanding Canon Log:
An exciting new gamma setting included in the Canon EOS C300 is Canon Log, and while not a RAW recording format, it delivers a number of the benefits of RAW recording to cinematographers and colorists looking for the most information to work with in color grading. Canon Log simplifies the production process, ensuring both single and multi-camera shoots produce consistent and predictable results. The Canon EOS C300 records images with Canon Log using the same reliable and tested on-board Canon XF Codec, but with approximately 12 stops of dynamic range, an overall flat image quality, low contrast and subdued sharpness. This allows for more image information to be retained for color correction and visual effects.

DIGGING UP CANON DSLR METADATA - Little Frog in High Def

DIGGING UP CANON DSLR METADATA - Little Frog in High Def
Today I found out a neat trick…thanks to the Twitter-verse. That’s what I love about Twitter. I can post a quick thought, or some observation…OR…I can ask quick advice about a random topic and get an answer rather quickly. I don’t have to go looking for some specific forum and then post the question there, and hope someone knows the answer. I just throw the answer out there, and wait for someone to post the solution. Typically I get more than one answer, and I get the answer within minutes.
