DisplayLink's adaptor streams 4K content over USB 2.0 and 3.0 (eyes-on)

DisplayLink's adaptor streams 4K content over USB 2.0 and 3.0 (eyes-on):
DisplayLink's been wringing all kinds of connectivity out of our computer's USB ports for years, turning one connection into many. It should come as no surprise, then, that the company's using its considerable compression expertise to send high-resolution 4K video through that very same pipe. Ideally, the system shoots video over USB 3.0, while still giving users the full connectivity options of any compatible DisplayLink device -- but it can also function using USB 2.0, though the dynamically compensating data compression at work may cause some frames to drop.

How To Build A DIY 4K Raid..!

How To Build A DIY 4K Raid..!
As many of you may already know or should know...4K is here to stay! That's right...each year the past several we've been hearing and seeing more and more 4K buzz at big expos like CES and Nabshow especially. So far we've seen the 4K TV and Professional Monitors hit market each year but at a very high buy in price. Though more recently the hottest screen for the money is the the Seiki 4K going for around $1499(or less...I've seen them sell for as little as $1k on ebay). This has been one big issue with 4K still taking a long time to be embraced outside of the local Movie Theaters like Regal, AMC, or for me locally Cinetopia have all upgraded screens to 4K. This past Nabshow we also got another curve ball. Blackmagic Design introduced a 4K Cinema Camera to follow last years 2.5K for $3k camera. The exciting part is it's only $4K for 4K(you can learn more about it on my Blackmagic Booth vid). The other issue have been how do I play it out. Well more recently various companies are offering you options. Nvidia have several offering that will output 4K, Matrox as well with their 4K Mojito Card(also check out my booth vid for Matrox with Dan discussing their new 4K card), and again Blackmagic with their NewDeckLink 4K Extreme so as you can see you have options!

The Production Costs of 4K: From Acquisition to Archiving

The Production Costs of 4K: From Acquisition to Archiving | CineTechnica:
4K was the definitive buzzword at NAB this year, as well as CES, with a number of manufacturers releasing 4K televisions, 4K game systems, and 4K cameras. With the consumer demand for 4K content just around the corner, one of the most often asked questions is “How much is this gonna cost us?!” After polling a number of industry sources, I decided to try and break down the production costs of shooting, data management, dailies creation and archiving in 4K to show that it isn’t as intimidating as you might think.

4K Video Over 6G-SDI Connections

High Definition for PC » 4K Video Over 6G-SDI Connections:
We began seeing the first products supporting 6G SDI announced at NAB this year.  I heard this was coming, but didn’t fully grasp the significance of it until looking around the show floor.  Hardly anyone is using dual-link 3G connections, presumably for 1080p60 in full RGB, and basically all 4K work is done in RGB, so going from four cables to two isn’t that helpful.  But broadcast applications with QuadHD frame-sizes is where this new technology is going to be key.

4K at 1000 fps thanks to the amazing new Phantom Flex 4K by Vision Research! - motionVFX Blog

4K at 1000 fps thanks to the amazing new Phantom Flex 4K by Vision Research! - motionVFX Blog:
4K at 1000fps? Not a problem! Only a few days ago we wrote about the FT-ONE (here) and now Vision Research reveals the exciting new Phantom Flex 4K camera! There's one big difference though - the Phantom Flex 4K will cost $140,000 with a 2TB CineMag, so probably a little bit more than the Japanese product. But on the other hand with any Phantom Flex camera you know what you pay for and you can always rent one if you want to shoot some slowmo scenes. The new camera is not final, so some specs might change and new features can still be implemented, but Vision Research presented a working unit at NAB. The camera should be out in October, so there's still enough time to make it even better - can't wait to see how it will shape up! And here are two videos that will give you a good overview of the camera - there's some very nice first footage here that was recorded by director Brendan Bellomo and cinematographer Greg Wilson who were asked by Vision Research to shoot it. The camera was a little more than a week old and it was an alpha prototype, but still - this looks awesome!

Offline to online with 4K

Offline to online with 4K « digitalfilms:

df_4k_wkflw_01The 4K buzz  seems to be steam-rolling the industry just like stereo3D before it. It’s too early to tell whether it will be an immediate issue for editors or not, since 4K delivery requirements are few and far between. Nevertheless, camera and TV-set manufacturers  are building important parts of the pipeline. RED Digital Cinema is leading the way with a post workflow that’s both proven and relatively accessible on any budget. A number of NLEs support editing and effects in 4K, including Avid DS, Autodesk Smoke, Adobe Premiere Pro, Apple Final Cut Pro X, Grass Valley EDIUS and Sony Vegas Pro.

A Side-by-Side Comparison of 4K Cameras and Feature Sets

A Side-by-Side Comparison of 4K Cameras and Feature Sets:
The Red One may have been the first high-res camera to take the film industry by storm but, when the history of digital cinematography is written, 2012 will be remembered as the year pictures got really big.
By 2011, Red Digital Cinema had been advocating on behalf of 4K acquisition for years, keeping its promise to ship inexpensive high-resolution cameras. Meanwhile, the Vision Research Phantom 65 crossed over from scientific and engineering markets that valued its 4K images to filmmakers who prized the look of its 65mm-sized imager. And then the floodgates opened.
