Evaluating an Application's Video Color

Evaluating an Application's Video Color
Both AV Foundation and QTKit automatically apply color management to video during playback. See Technical Note TN2227 Video Color Management in AV Foundation and QTKit, which is considered a prerequisite for this document.
As discussed in Technical Note TN2227, ColorSync creates a color transform that provides a perceptual match between a known broadcast video color space (as specified by the 'nclc' tag) and the specific chromaticity and gamma characteristics of your display (as defined by the display's ICC profile). This color transformation is then applied to every pixel of each frame by the GPU in realtime as the video is played back on screen.

What Display Should I Buy? An Opinion Piece…

What Display Should I Buy? An Opinion Piece…:

Lest you later accuse me of false advertising, I’m admitting right now that I’m not going to tell you what you should buy. Rather, I’ll deliver an epistemological monologue about choosing monitors that may accidentally be helpful to you. I welcome comment, especially from those of you who are genuine color scientists. Just please be nice to each other.
I’m talking color critical displays, and gird your loins, because this post is a long one.

Exclusive: The truth about OLED monitors

RedShark News - Exclusive: The truth about OLED monitors:
OLED technology outperforms LCDs; it has a smaller and lighter form factor and is beginning to reach parity from a price perspective. In 2011, over 100m OLED displays were shipped into the smartphone, handheld game and digital camera market and in 2012 that number will double, and in addition there will be new applications such as tablets and TVs. Revenues are expected to grow from ~US$4B in 2011 to over US$8B in 2012. Another market being addressed exclusively by Sony is the cinematic monitor, which takes advantage of three OLED attributes.

UltraStudio 4K announced by Blackmagic at IBC 2012

UltraStudio 4K announced by Blackmagic at IBC 2012:
image
At IBC 2012, Blackmagic announced the US$1295 UltraStudio 4k audio/video i/o, which now represents the top end Thunderbolt device from the Australian company, which is now known not only for its interfaces, but also for its DaVinci Resolve software, cameras, and other products. Unlike prior UltraStudio Thunderbolt interfaces from Blackmagic, this is the first to have a 19-inch rack form factor. It is an obvious step up from its sister, the US$995 UltraStudio 3D, whose name sometimes confuses people, since it also handles 2D… and of course the UltraStudio 4K can also do 3D, and features an LCD monitor and hardware buttons for source selection. As you can imagine, the first question I asked Blackmagic was: Does the UltraStudio 4K offer digital RGB-over-HDMI? I asked on behalf of DreamColor owners, because the total price of the UltraStudio 4K is lower then the sum of the UltraStudio 3D plus the “Band-Aid” (the HDLink Pro 3D DisplayPort). Of course, I know that the HP DreamColor is not a 4K monitor (at least not the current one).
