NAB 2013: Fujifilm IS-mini Color Management Tool | CineTechnica:
Now that there are more cameras capable of shooting LOG or Raw, the art of creating looks or LUTs has become more important than ever. While you can usually rely on the in-camera LUTs, there are many times you need to have more control over the image. The same can be said of using multiple monitors on set and trying to ensure they all match as closely as possible. Fuji has built upon the power of the CCBox and introduced the IS-mini, a powerful color management tool that has multiple uses on and off set. Watch my video above to get a glimpse at what this box is capable of and read Fuji’s full press release for more details.

BulletProof Unveiled

Prolost - Blog - BulletProof Unveiled:
Large productions with high-end digital cinema cameras tend to be supported by a full DIT (Digital Imaging Technician) cart with customized software and hardware. But where was the DIT tool for indies? Red Giant saw an opportunity to bolster the workflow of one of the most common types of shoot—the DSLR-based, small-but-capable indie crew. So about 18 months ago, we sat in Sean Safreed’s dining room in San Francisco and started sketching ideas for BulletProof.

5 Ways the Camera Department Can Help Avoid “Fix It In Post” Headaches

5 Ways the Camera Department Can Help Avoid “Fix It In Post” Headaches:
5 Ways the Camera Department Can Help Avoid “Fix It In Post” HeadachesHave you looked around on a film set lately?
You might notice that production and post-production are beginning to merge.
Walter Murch, the “Yoda of editing,” often talks about how he doesn’t think editors belong on set. He thinks they need to come to the footage fresh with untainted eyes — knowing in your mind, for instance, that a shot took a whole day to film might bias you into using it.

A Video Workflow for the RED

A Video Workflow for the RED:
When doing looks with r3d files, we light the scene ideally with the subjects in there, create a test clip, put it to the computer and then apply color work on it. You can judge the exposure from there, or use the built in camera tools, then apply your look, get it approved, and then start applying that to the rest of the clips and do match from there.  You can do your looks via Redcine X Pro, third party software like Scratch Lab, Da Vinci Resolve, Colorfront OSD/EXD, etc. Generally, you have access for metadata controls for the RAW to baseline your look, before you apply RGB alterations to it. This can produce cleaner, better results when working with r3d because you aren’t jumping into forcing the values.

The Many Problems with Prelude

The Many Problems with Prelude:
I was initially very excited by the promise of Adobe Prelude (replacing Adobe OnLocation as of version CS6). The idea that it can streamline (even automate) the Digital Image Technician’s workflow of copying and checking digitally-sourced footage on-set and making proxies, thus freeing up the DIT to focus on more useful tasks, such as logging information into the footage’s metadata.
