NVIDIA, Red Hat Partner Up For New Graphics Project

[Phoronix] NVIDIA, Red Hat Partner Up For New Graphics Project:
Jerome Glisse has long been involved with open-source Linux graphics drivers, but in recent months he hasn't announced any major breakthroughs like in past years. However, at Red Hat they have struck up a partnership with NVIDIA to work on a new device-agnostic API for the Linux kernel that can benefit the graphics drivers.

No ROCKET Necessary: 3rd Party GPU Acceleration is Coming to REDCINE-X PRO

No ROCKET Necessary: 3rd Party GPU Acceleration is Coming to REDCINE-X PRO « nofilmschool:
While proprietary used to be the name of the game, we are entering an age where camera systems and post solutions are choosing more open source options for maximum compatibility (and a likely wider install base as a result). Look no further than the increasing use of CinemaDNG with cameras like the Ikonoskop, Blackmagic Cinema Camera, and Digital Bolex. Now it looks like RED is at least partially entering that arena with an update to REDCINE-X PRO.

See How Much You Can Do in Adobe Premiere Pro with a Multi-GPU Setup by Jeremiah Karpowicz

See How Much You Can Do in Adobe Premiere Pro with a Multi-GPU Setup by Jeremiah Karpowicz: Dave Helmly from Adobe was over in the AMD booth at SIGGRAPH 2013, and he took the time to show us some of the work they've been doing with AMD to allow users to do many different tasks at the same time and even open and use multiple programs.  He takes us though a few examples that showcase what the system can handle.

NVIDIA Quadro K6000 Rendering Benchmarks

BOXX Blogs: NVIDIA Quadro K6000 Rendering Benchmarks:
The latest Quadro card from NVIDIA has been announced and BOXX was able to get its hands on a couple of the new Quadro K6000s for testing. In the video above we'll show you some visual performance comparisons demonstrating how the new card stacks up against NVIDIA's other high-end GPUs. The tests gauge the performance of interactive rendering using Octane Render.

Adobe After Effects CS6 Render Test Quadro 4000 vs GTX 660 and GTX 660Ti

Adobe After Effects CS6 Render Test Quadro 4000 vs GTX 660 and GTX 660Ti:
In an effort to be more wise with the finances, I sought to do my own digging as to what was better for AE and PPro in terms of render times and performance.  I had just invested nearly $800 in the QUADRO 4000 GPU and owned it for a year prior to running into an excellent article written by David Knarr of Studio 1 Productions here:

Apple’s move to FirePro GPUs in the new Mac Pro

Apple’s move to FirePro GPUs in the new Mac Pro - Creative Impatience:
Perhaps one of the biggest surprises during the recent sneak-peek of the new Mac Pro was the inclusion of AMD FirePro GPUs. While at first it might look like Apple again showing the middle finger to all CUDA users, and perhaps to Adobe or BlackMagic, “it ain’t necessarily so”.

Intels "Haswell" GPU's offer increased performance

RedShark News - Intels "Haswell" GPU's offer increased performance:
Intel have said their new "Haswell" processors will be arriving in approximately 3,337,200,000,000,000 nanoseconds, which in case you're wondering is the fourth of June, co-incidentally the first day of the Computex trade show in Taipei. This will be the fourth generation of Intel's core processors, following on from the Sandy Bridge and Ivy Bridge models, and they promise increased perfomance especially in terms of graphics and video processing.

Difference in AE file Imported into PPro with MPE in Hardware vs. Software Mode

Adobe Community: Difference in AE file Imported into PPro with MPE in Hardware vs. Software Mode:
I am getting an undesireable result when importing AE files into a PPro Sequence with MPE in hardware mode. The top (or left) pic is accurate, with MPE in Software mode (nice soft glow). In the bottom pic, MPE is in Hardware mode. Note the undesireable (and inaccurate) harder glow. These AE files are output in an uncompressed AVI with alpha channel. The pics below were imported into PPro with the AE file placed over a black clip in PPro (Video Layer 1=Black. Video Layer 2= AE text w/Alpha). Any thoughts, or better yet, solutions?!

Hacking NVidia Cards into their Professional Counterparts

Hacking NVidia Cards into their Professional Counterparts - Page 1:
Firstly I will give a bit of history for those that are unaware. NVidia's has for a long time had two ranges of cards, the GeForce for the gaming market, and Quadro for the professional market, and more recently the Tesla range for high end parallel computing stuff. As I am sure most of you would be aware, it is cheaper to manufacture a single chip and cripple it in some way for different product lines then it is to make different silicon for every product.

After Effects and the state of GPU computing

RedShark News - After Effects and the state of GPU computing:
As we saw back in December in Eyeon's informative video, GPU computing is a very powerful technique that, during the last year or two, has begun to break out of a niche. The original application of graphics cards was, obviously, video games. 3D rendering software such as Max and Lightwave have been using games-oriented graphics hardware to produce approximate previews of the scene for some time. More recently, the world's most popular operating system learned how to draw its user interface using more features on the graphics card, saving the CPU from spending its valuable time working out which window is on top.

Shedding some light about Performance using the HP Z820 and NVIDIA Maximus

Shedding some light about Performance using the HP Z820 and NVIDIA Maximus:
Here’s another quick video we did showing the latest HP Z820 dual processor system paired with 4 drive internal raid , NVIDIA Quadro 5000, and a Tesla 2075. The video tries to give you an idea of how the system performs with and without the Tesla board installed. I get lots of questions on how increase performance and thought this might shed some light.

New NVIDIA Drivers for Mac

New NVIDIA Drivers for Mac:
NVIDIA recently release an updated driver (version 304.00.05f02, available here) for Mac users with Quadro or GeForce cards running Mac OS X 10.8.2 . If you have experienced crashes in Premiere Pro CS6 or later when using a qualified NVIDIA GPU, we strongly recommend you update to this new driver version, which should improve stability. The crashes were mostly seen when switching from OpenCL to CUDA or when tabbing from other applications back to Premiere Pro (most notably Safari).

Adobe Premiere CS5, CS5.5 and CS6 Video Cards with CUDA Acceleration Mercury Playback Unlock Enable MPE Hack Mod Tip David Knarr

Adobe Premiere CS5, CS5.5 and CS6 Video Cards with CUDA Acceleration Mercury Playback Unlock Enable MPE Hack Mod Tip David Knarr:
If you don't have a certified card or you want to use a non-certified NVidia video card, there is a way to edit a file and add your video card to a list, so Adobe Premiere CS5, CS5.5 and CS6 will allow your video card to run with GPU Acceleration.  Some people call this a mod, hacking or unlocking the video cards, whatever you choose to call it, this will not make it "certified" in the eyes of Adobe.  But, you will be able to use the GPU Acceleration feature of Adobe Premiere CS6, CS5.5 and Premiere CS5.
