A new version of Mactracker has been released (6.0) and if you are not aware of the existance of this little app you might actually find it very handy as it is a much better tool than System Profiler. Mactracker provides detailed information on your and every Apple, Motorola, PowerComputing, and UMAX Mac OS computer ever made, including items such as processor speed, memory, optical drives, graphic cards, supported Mac OS versions, and expansion options. Also included is information on Apple mice, keyboards, displays, printers, scanners, digital cameras, iPod, AirPort Base Stations, Newtons, and Mac OS versions. In other words this tool gives you all the info you need about your Mac computer... and others!
The app includes a comparison tool for graphic representation of how much better an upgraded processor is for the money you're putting into it. It also has information about the true amount of RAM that can be installed in different models. What is also interesting is that you can really search through any Apple product ever created, from laptops to iPods, to keyboards, to the Newton. It also detects which model of computer you use.
The only downside of the software is that it won't tell you the clock speed of your processor or the size of your hard drive, only what options were available on that Mac when it was sold or will provide you useful information such as what resolution your laptop supports on an external monitor.
Mactracker is a 100% free tool so make sure to visit the official website to grab your copy: http://www.mactracker.ca/index.html. There's also a version available for iOS.
